A GRANDSON of Independent Dublin city councillor and former Sinn Fein member Christy Burke has pleaded guilty at the Special Criminal Court to the possession of a Glock handgun and ammunition.
Ciaran Burke (20) of Ferrycarrig Park, Coolock, Dublin 17, has pleaded guilty to the unlawful possession of a 9mm parabellum Glock semi-automatic pistol and thirteen rounds of 9mm parabellum ammunition at the N32, Coolock, Dublin 13, on July 2.
Burke was granted bail by the non-jury in July but voluntarily re-entered custody two months later.
He had also been charged with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State, namely the IRA, otherwise Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the IRA on July 2.
Counsel for the State, Garnet Orange BL, said it was envisaged that the DPP would enter a “Nolle Prosequi”, in other words not proceed with the outstanding membership count against Burke.
Presiding judge Mr Justice Paul Butler, sitting with Judge Margaret Heneghan and Judge William Hamill, said the court would remand Burke in custody to appear before the non-jury court on January 30 next for sentence.
