A RETIRED garage owner whose two sons were killed in a car crash has begun a civil action over the nervous shock he suffered after their deaths.
Walter Doyle (59), of Sparrowlands, Bree, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, was unable to return to his job selling cars after the accident nearly 14 years ago, which claimed the lives of his sons Dermot (20) and Jim (16), the High Court heard yesterday.
The accident happened at Polehore, Killurin, Co Wexford, on August 20, 1996, when a car, driven by Dermot, collided with a 4X4 driven by John Doyle (no relation) with an address at Oularatard, Ferns, Enniscorthy.
Liability has been admitted and the case is before the court for assessment of the level of damages only.
High Court president Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns adjourned the matter to today. Walter Doyle settled a separate action for damages against John Doyle brought on behalf of himself, his wife and four other children.
