The father of Fine Gael TD Sean Conlan's fiancée sought to have his theft case adjourned at a court hearing pending the outcome of a Garda Ombudsman investigation.
Brendan Comiskey (57), with an address at Sussex Way in London, who is the father of Mr Conlan's wife-to-be, Sarah, was yesterday appearing before Carrickmacross District Court in Monaghan to face charges of theft over the sale of a Vauxhall Astra car in August 2011.
Mr Comiskey's solicitor Catherine McGinley suggested the case should be adjourned pending the outcome of a Garda Siochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) investigation lodged by Mr Comiskey.
She said proceeding with the court case while the GSOC investigation was ongoing would be detrimental to her client's "right to fair procedure".
Judge Denis McLoughlin dismissed the suggestion and said there is "no way" the GSOC investigation would stop the case. It was adjourned to May 20.
