Farmer jailed for contempt in land dispute
A FARMER has been jailed for 28 days for contempt for failing to comply with the undertakings of a court.
Judge Tom Teehan jailed father-of-seven, Thomas Francis Hearne (66), for for failing to comply with a Circuit Criminal Court order to move his livestock and vacate a parcel of land in Co Waterford.
The case revolves around a 16-acre parcel of land at Kilelton, near the coastal village of Stadbally.
During a previous family law sitting of the court, Mr Hearn agreed to finance a settlement with his estranged wife. Mr Hearne does not want to sell the land for some €40,000, as was agreed in the settlement. He maintains that the price is too little for the land.
