Family closer to late teen's HSE files

THE family of late teenager Daniel McAnaspie are a step closer to accessing files relating to his treatment while in HSE care.
Mr Justice George Birmingham yesterday ruled that the district court has the power to authorise the release of documents relating to the teen, who suffered a violent death last year.
Daniel (17) disappeared while in the care of the HSE. His body was discovered on May 13, 2010. He had died as a result of stabbing and a criminal investigation is ongoing.
Yesterday Mr Justice Birmingham said the death of McAnaspie raises "serious public interest issues".
His sister Caitriona McAnaspie had asked for 'in camera' restrictions to be lifted so that she could publish details of the reports.
Mr Justice Birmingham said Caitriona believed that the reports may reveal that the health authorities failed in their obligations.
In his judgment, Mr Justice Birmingham ruled that the care order had come to an end on Daniel's death.
