A 'Fair City' actor who bit and punched his ex-girlfriend is seeking more time to pay compensation, after handing over €1,000 in court.

Patrick Fitzpatrick (33), who is awaiting sentence for the assault, could face 12 months in prison.

His case can be finalised only by the judge who originally heard it. It was therefore adjourned for a week at Dublin District Court yesterday.

The court heard that Fitzpatrick was due to pay another €1,000 to his victim.

Fitzpatrick pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to Theresa Gannon at his home at Hollytree Terrace, Ballymun, on September 4, 2015.

The court had heard that the victim was at the accused's home when he became aggressive.

He punched Ms Gannon's face twice and bit her right upper arm. She was left with bruising to her right eye, but the bite did not break her skin.

Fitzpatrick's barrister told Judge Deirdre Gearty that there was "a sum of money to be paid" in compensation and €1,000 was handed over to Garda Niall Carolan, to be given to the victim. Counsel said there was €1,000 outstanding.

She said there was also a probation report on the accused.

She asked Judge Gearty to adjourn the case until November.

However, the judge noted that the accused had pleaded guilty in February and the case had now been before the court three times to find the judge who heard the case, Judge John Lindsay.

Judge Gearty said it was better that Judge Lindsay decided what to do and adjourned the case until July 12. Fitzpatrick is excused from attending on that date.
