A FATHER of four on trial for his alleged part in a drug deal involving duvets stuffed with bars of cocaine has claimed he is not guilty by reason of insanity.
Imran Ramzan (34), of Polygon Road, Manchester, has pleaded not guilty to the charge of having cocaine for sale or supply at Station Road, Lusk, Co Dublin, on September 14, 2006.
The trial heard that Mr Ramzan was a driver of a truck which travelled from Manchester to Dublin with nine blocks of cocaine stuffed into duvets.
Counsel for Mr Ramzan said it would be argued that as a result of head injuries sustained during a car crash he did not have the ability to understand the consequences of what he was doing.
But the prosecution put it to Mr Ramzan that he agreed to deliver the package because of an offer of money.
The trial continues before Judge Patrick McCartan.
