Dragon's mum and pet groomer settle rent row
THE proprietor of a pet grooming salon has settled a €70,000 rent arrears claim by her landlord, the mother of former RTE 'Dragons' Den' star Niall O'Farrell.
Sinead Deegan and her landlord, Patricia O'Farrell, reached a confidential settlement after the matter ended up in Dublin Circuit Civil Court.
Niall O'Farrell, founder of the Blacktie chain of shops, told the Circuit Civil Court he collected rent on behalf of his mother on a lease of the premises in Ranelagh, Dublin, which was rented by Muttugly Limited and Ms Deegan.
Barrister Ciaran Lewis, counsel for Ms O'Farrell, told Judge Jacqueline Linnane that while the initial proceedings claimed just under €23,000, the arrears and claim had risen to just over €70,000.
Ray Delahunt, counsel for Ms Deegan, who was guarantor of the company, said there had been a dispute and counter-claim regarding monies withheld for "significant" repairs by Muttugly to the property.
When he gave evidence of deductions having allegedly wrongly been made by Ms Deegan in lieu of repairs, Judge Linnane said the lease entered in evidence imposed full repair obligation on the tenant.
Mr Delahunt told the court evidence would be given by Ms Deegan that significant works had been done by her.
The hearing was adjourned briefly to allow for negotiations and, when resumed, Mr Lewis told the court that a confidential settlement had been reached between the parties.
