THE Director of Public Prosecutions is seeking an early hearing of the appeal against the leniency of a sentence imposed on a businessman convicted of sexual assault.
Anthony Lyons, of Griffith Avenue, Dublin, is due to be released from prison in mid-December after he was jailed for six months at the end of July for attacking and sexually assaulting a woman on Griffith Avenue in Dublin over two years ago.
Prosecutor Kerida Naidoo applied to the court for a date within the next three weeks, in the hope of having the case heard prior to Lyons' release.
Lyons originally denied attacking the woman when he was arrested on October 3, 2010.
However, the 52-year-old father of four later admitted he attacked the woman, blaming cholesterol medication – a defence rejected by the jury.
