Defamation proceedings brought by Fianna Fail Senator Thomas Byrne against Google Ireland have been adjourned for a week.

Last week the 36-year-old politician brought a High Court action against Google claiming he was grossly defamed after the internet giant published a picture of convicted solicitor Thomas Byrne alongside the senator's 'Google Knowledge Graph' profile. The picture has since been removed from Senator's Byrnes profile.

Senator Byrne secured an interim injunction preventing Google from publishing, as part of the knowledge graph about the Co Meath based politician, a photograph of the Thomas Byrne who was jailed for 12 years on Monday following his conviction  of theft and fraud offences.

The injunction was granted last week by Mr Justice Paul Gilligan who yesterday adjourned the matter for a week after he was told the defendants wanted to deal with a particular issue.
