Dad further remanded in custody after being charged with possession of handgun, silencer and ammunition
A father-of-two charged with possessing a handgun, a silencer and nine rounds of ammunition at his home in Dublin has been further remanded in custody
Martin Whelan (52) from Cairn Court, Poppentree, in Ballymun is accused of unlawfully possessing a Makarov 9mm pistol, a silencer and nine rounds of ammunition at his home address on Sept. 28 last.
He was refused bail on Monday and was remanded in custody.
He faced his second hearing when he appeared before Judge Victor Blake at Cloverhill District Court where he was further remanded in custody to appear again on Oct. 18 next.
At his first hearing Garda John Pirollo said the accused “gave no reply” when he was charged with the offences.
The court also heard that approximately €360,000 was allegedly seized during the operation.
In a follow up operation a second man was arrested last Friday in the Ballymun area and was detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at a Dublin Garda Station. He was subsequently was released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
