CUSTOMS officers have seized more than €500,000 in cash so far this year after they suspected the money could be the proceeds of crime.
The latest haul, of €20,000, was made after they stopped a passenger boarding a flight at Dublin Airport.
Officers intercepted the foreign national as he was about to get on to a plane to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.
The money was concealed in clothings on his carry-on luggage, according to the Revenue.
The seizure was carried out under the amended provisions of the Criminal Justice Act, 1994, which allows Customs officers to seize money they suspect could be derived from criminal activities.
At Dublin District Court yesterday, officers were granted an order to hold on to the cash as inquiries are carried out.
