Couple charged with handling stolen crosses

A ROMANIAN couple have been remanded in custody charged with handling statues and crosses stolen from graves.

Marian Lingurar (35) and his wife Chrisa Rostas (30), who live in Claregalway, Co Galway, appeared before Galway District Court yesterday charged with five counts of handling the graveyard statues at their home, knowing they were stolen on October 5.

A 17-year-old boy was granted bail in relation to the same charges.

Gardai strenuously objected to bail applications lodged in court by the couple.

Judge Timothy Lucey refused bail and he remanded Mr Lingurar in custody to appear before court today.

He also remanded Ms Rostas in custody to appear before court on October 12.

The teenager was granted bail to appear next Wednesday also.
