Clayton settles court row over assistant's flat

A HIGH Court dispute over the sale proceeds of a New York apartment bought by U2 bassist Adam Clayton's former personal assistant has been settled.

The apartment was bought by Carol Hawkins with Mr Clayton's money for $465,000.

Last July, Ms Hawkins of Crannagh Road, Dublin 14, was sentenced to seven years for stealing €2.8m belonging to Mr Clayton. The apartment was sold and €193,000 was held in a bank account by court order pending the outcome of criminal proceedings.

Ms Hawkins's lawyers claimed they were entitled to legal fees from the account. Mr Clayton argued he was entitled to be paid the full amount. However yesterday, Eamon Marray, for Mr Clayton, said the case could be struck out.
