Burglar who crashed into garda car after escaping house in owner's car pleads guilty

A man who burgled a house before escaping in the owner's car and crashing into a garda car has pleaded guilty.

Jonathan Ayton, (40), from The Close, Raphoe, appeared at Donegal Circuit Court today in Donegal Town in relation to an incident in Killybegs in the early hours of April 13 this year.

When the case was called today Ayton pleaded guilty to burglary on the Fintra Rd, Killybegs and dangerous driving at The Gap Ballybofey later that same morning.

Patricia McLaughlin, prosecuting, said the guilty plea had been accepted by the Director of Public Prosecutions on the basis of full facts been heard at a sentencing hearing and that two other charges relating to the incident would be taken into consideration.

Judge John O'Hagan remanded Ayton in custody to appear again at the same court in January for sentencing.
