Builders fined €10,000 over unsafe machine

A construction company has been fined €10,000 after a bulldozer with a defective transmission system was discovered on site during an inspection.

C & M Construction Ltd, of Duleek Business Park, Duleek, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, to failing to ensure all machinery was in safe working order at Pier D, Dublin Airport on February 27, 2008.

Judge Patricia Ryan noted that the company has one previous conviction from the District Court before she imposed the fine and gave the company two years to pay.

The State asked that the court order the company to pay the costs of the prosecution which amount to €31,000.

Judge Ryan adjourned the case to December 7 for a costs hearing.
