TWO English brothers are to go on trial charged in connection with the discovery of dozens of puppies found lying in their own excrement in two cars in Dublin.

The animals were recovered and taken into safety. It followed searches of two cars on October 9 last, on the Old Malahide Road in the Coolock area in north Dublin.

Reuben Burton (32) and his brother Rico Lee Burton (21), both from Stone Meadows, Carrington, Manchester, have been charged under the Protection of Animals Act.

Judge McNamara remanded the pair on continuing bail and ordered them to appear again next month. The brothers have not yet indicated how they will plead.
