A man on multiple rape and sexual assault charges has been granted bail after his boyfriend flew to Ireland from abroad to provide a home for him.

The 43-year-old accused was extradited to Ireland last Thursday and later charged with eight counts of sexual assault and three of rape against a man in 1991 and 1992 in Co Louth.

He was remanded in custody after being charged and appeared at Trim District Court yesterday where he was granted bail.

His partner of 15 years, a businessman who travels between Europe and Asia, told judge Grainne Malone that he had lodged €15,000 to a bank account in Dublin, which he was prepared to see frozen. He had also brought €5,000 in cash to the court which he was prepared to lodge as a surety. There was no objection to bail.

The accused was remanded on bail to appear at Trim District Court to be served with a book of evidence on April 6 next.
