Bouncer denies bid to blackmail boxer
AN Albanian bouncer has denied attempting to blackmail Steve Collins after the former boxing champion fractured his two front teeth.
Adriatik Vodo was recalled to the witness box yesterday after Mr Collins, under cross-examination, had accused the doorman and his former employer of being involved in a money-making conspiracy against him.
Mr Vodo insisted that he had never sought any money from Mr Collins.
Mr Collins (46), of St Albans, Hertfordshire, England, has pleaded not guilty to assaulting Mr Vodo on June 3, 2006, at the National Stadium, South Circular Road, Dublin.
On day three of the trial, Mr Jordan also denied being in a conspiracy with Mr Vodo to blackmail Mr Collins, but admitted at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court that he contacted Mr Vodo's solicitor and Mr Collins's brother Roddy in July 2008 in an attempt to "sort it out without garda involvement".
Garda Cillian Blake said he was not aware of any conspiracy to blackmail Mr Collins and had never been informed by any other garda that Mr Collins had made such a complaint.
The jury will begin its deliberations on a verdict today.
