Bomb accused cries in court

The 44-year-old man at the centre of an alleged mid-air bomb scare on board a transatlantic jet, cried in court yesterday as a senior garda sought to have him remanded in custody for a further two weeks.

Dutch national Jorge Flores was making his fourth appearance in court in connection with the charge of stating he had a bomb on board an Aruba-bound flight from Amsterdam on January 13, which was diverted to Shannon. A garda search of the flight found no device.

The judge acceded to the request and remanded Mr Flores in custody to Shannon District Court on February 18.
