An Irish man who assaulted his brother on a night out in Sydney has been given a 13 month suspended sentence.
Barry Lyttle had pleaded guilty to recklessly causing grievous bodily harm to his younger brother, 31-year-old Patrick, in January.
The "one-punch attack" outside a pub in Australia left Patrick critically injured.
After the sentence was handed down in the Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney, the brothers could be seen embracing each other.
Australian media report that there were emotional scenes outside the courtroom as the result means the family can return to Ireland.
“It has been an awful ordeal for me but everyone can see it has been for Barry too,” Patrick told the court in his victim impact statement.
