THE High Court has granted an order allowing a maternity hospital to withdraw life-support treatment from a brain-damaged newborn baby boy whose mother died shortly after he was delivered at 39 weeks.
President of the High Court Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns was told last night that the little boy was not breathing unaided and was being given morphine, as doctors believe he is in pain.
Doctors also said that keeping the baby on a ventilator would prolong his suffering when his prognosis was very poor.
