€38,000 case over €1.85 bus ticket settled
A MAN who claimed a Dublin Bus driver accused him of not paying the correct fare for a €1.85 journey has settled a €38,000 damages claim for defamation.
Tommy O'Connell (53), of Oakwood Road, Finglas, Dublin, alleged in the Circuit Civil Court that driver Oki-Osifo had accused him of paying only €1.20.
Mr O'Connell claimed he suffered embarrassment, anxiety and distress as a result of the incident on June 25, 2011.
Gerard O'Herlihy, for Dublin Bus, said the bus company denied liability.
The court heard that after talks between the parties, Mr O'Connell's claim had been settled and the case could be struck out.
