A piece of glass in a three-year-old boy's forehead went undetected because no X-rays were taken when he was treated in hospital.

Arron Kehoe, Standhouse Lawns, Newbridge, Co Kildare, was taken to the National Children's Hospital when he cut his head after running into a glass panel in his home, the Circuit Civil Court heard.

Tom Clarke, counsel for the boy, now six, said in March 2014 Aaron's wounds had been cleaned, and after some glass was removed, had been sealed.

Following his discharge, Aaron's wound only partly healed and a subsequent X-ray revealed there was a piece of glass under the skin.

The hospital made a settlement offer of €20,000, which was approved.
