Couple quizzed following firearms seizure

A man and woman were being questioned today after gardai responding to reports of an assault discovered firearms, ammunition and a bayonet at a house.

Officers were called to Cashel Avenue in Crumlin at around 10pm last night following claims that a firearm had been produced during a dispute.

After speaking to a number of people present, gardai searched a house in the street.

Inside they found three firearms - a sawn-off shotgun, a replica AK47 and a replica handgun - along with 36 shotgun cartridges and a bayonet.

A 33-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were arrested at the scene and taken to Crumlin and Sundrive Road Garda Stations.

They can be held for up to three days under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

It is understood the weapon had been wielded after an argument broke out among at least three people.

No-one was injured during the incident.

Another search was conducted at a house in Edenmore Park in Raheny but no items were recovered.

A Garda spokesman said investigations were ongoing.
