Couple and baby rescued from apartment block fire

Two families rescued from their homes overnight

Dublin fire brigade sent five units

TWO families including a baby were rescued from their homes in separate fires overnight.

In one incident, a mother and daughter were rescued from their Dublin house after it went on fire in the early hours of this morning.

Dublin Fire Brigade sent five fire units and two ambulances to the home in Beech Lawn in Dundrum at 2am.

St James’s Hospital in Dublin 8 was put on standby for the duration of the operation.

It is understood the mother and daughter were treated for smoke inhalation.

The second incident took place in an apartment block in Portarlington Co Laois.

The emergency services received multiple calls at 1.30am that a fire had broken out at Kilnacourt Woods.

When the fire brigade arrived, they found a couple and their baby trapped on the third floor.

The family were rescued and the blaze was brought under control.
