Councillor charged over paint attack on Harney
A COUNCILLOR has been charged with three criminal offences as a result of a paint attack on Health Minister Mary Harney earlier this month.
Dublin City Councillor Louise Minihan squirted the red paint from a bottle and splashed the minister and her garda driver at a sod-turning ceremony at Cherry Orchard hospital in Ballyfermot, west Dublin. As a councillor, Ms Minihan had been an invited guest at the ceremony.
Gardai confirmed yesterday that she was formally charged with assault on Ms Harney, criminal damage and a breach of the peace.
The charges were put to Ms Minihan at Ballyfermot garda station yesterday morning after she had been arrested at her home by uniformed gardai.
She is due to appear at Dublin District Court on December 13.
