A Dublin City Council liasion officer at the Drumalee Court housing complex in Stoneybatter, Dublin, visited the bedsit of John Glennon (68) last Thursday and had no immediate concerns for his welfare before his body was found on Monday.

The father-of-three was discovered huddled up with his friend Debbie McEvoy (63), originally from Newry, Co Down, on the floor of his flat.

It also emerged that Mr Glennon requested Bord Gais to cut off the gas supply to his flat in 2007 even though he would be eligible for the State's heating allowance. His sole source of heat in the flat, an electric heater, was found switched off when their bodies were discovered.
