Cost of living rises 0.8pc after sales end

IT'S getting cheaper to get your hair done but more expensive to buy new clothes.

Overall prices rose by 0.8pc last month as the cost of clothes, shoes and furniture increased following the end of the winter sales.

The annual rate of inflation is now 1.1pc – and the biggest price increases in the year to the end of February were seen for alcohol, cigarettes and education, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) said.

Prescription drug prices also increased last month and are now 9.2pc more expensive than a year ago. During February, the cost of getting your hair done fell by 4pc, while the cost for beauty treatments dropped 3pc.

Food prices have gone up by 2pc, although they eased back marginally in February.
