Correction and apology

In a report concerning fatal road accidents in last Saturday's Irish Independent, reference was made to the death of a cyclist on the N4 in Co Longford on Friday in an incident involving a lorry.
Due to a production error, a reference from a separate story concerning a completely different accident, stating that the driver failed to stop and was returning to the North after a late-night drinking session, was inadvertently and wrongly included.
We wish to clarify that these facts were not related in any way to the incident in question.
The driver, working for Martin Ryan and Sons Haulage, remained at the scene to assist the emergency services.
We take this opportunity to sincerely apologise to him and to correct the error.
