A MAN serving a life sentence for his part in the murder of a father-of-two has been found dead in prison.
Eugene Cullen was found dead in his cell at the Midlands Prison this morning at around 9am. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
The 31-year-old was serving a life sentence for his involvement in the murder of Seamus O’Byrne at Tymon Park North in Tallaght in March 2009.
He was regarded as a key member of ‘Fat’ Freddie Thompson’s gang by gardai – and he played a significant role in the Crumlin-Drimnagh feud.
O’Byrne was targeted because of his friendship with rival mob boss Brian Rattigan.
His partner was Sharon Rattigan, the sister of Brian.
She was also shot in the leg during the attack and gave evidence in court.
In a victim-impact statement, Ms Rattigan said they had lost a constant light in their lives and their baby son would never know his father.
He spent three years on the run in Amsterdam before being arrested on foot of a European arrest warrant in 2012.
He was extradited back to Ireland where he was incarcerated since.
