Contraband tobacco was seized in Kerry

TWO Polish men are being questioned by gatrdai following the seizure of contraband tobacco by the Revenue Customs Service.

The men, who are in their 30s and 40s were arrested in Tralee, Co Kerry this afternoon, following a planned search at a house where over 46kgs of ‘Pall Mall’ and ‘Turner’ roll-your-own tobacco was seized.

The tobacco has an estimated street value of €18,300 and a potential loss to the exchequer of €14,800.

As part of a planned operation, officers executed two search warrants at private residences in the town.

The tobacco was discovered concealed in cargo boxes and surrounded by metal sheeting.

Businesses or members of the public with any information regarding the smuggling or sale of illegal cigarettes are asked to contact Revenue in confidence at 1800 295 295.
