The Irish Hospital Consultants' Association, which represents specialists in public and private practice, has appointed Martin Varley as its new secretary general.
Mr Varley will take over from Finbarr Fitzpatrick, who is retiring. He was head of the organisation since it was set up in the late 1980s to deal exclusively with the interests of consultants.
