Constituents in Kerry rally around sick TD
NEWS that Michael Healy-Rae had taken ill reached his constituency like wildfire yesterday afternoon, writes Majella O'Sullivan.
It was the top item on Radio Kerry's afternoon bulletin at 4pm, causing shock in his native Kerry, though the broadcast assured listeners that the independent deputy was going to be fine.
Still, Mr Healy-Rae's health scare surprised his supporters because of his relative young age and level of fitness.
Known for his work ethic, Mr Healy-Rae is said to never take a holiday and finds it hard to switch off from work.
"You can be sure that the only thing that's bothering Michael now is who is going to look after the clinics tomorrow," one supporter told the Irish Independent.
But, as always, when there's a crisis, the Healy-Rae clan be relied on to rally round and attend to Michael's duties in his absence. Last night, his brother Danny told the Irish Independent he had been busy dealing with calls from people asking after his brother.
"He'll be fine. He's talking away anyway so that's a good sign," Mr Healy-Rae said.
