HE may not have reached Justin Bieber levels of stardom just yet. But teen heartthrob Cody Simpson can still make a crowd of love-struck girls swoon.
The 16-year-old Australian singer was back in Dublin playing his own sell-out gig in Vicar Street, having opened for Bieber at the O2 last week.
A group of die-hard fans began queuing outside the venue at 9am yesterday. As the doors opened last night, the queue – some of whom had travelled from as far afield as Cork and Derry – snaked around the corner with some clutching signs declaring their love.
Perfect
"I've been in love with him since he first came out in 2010. He's perfect," enthused 16-year-old Orla Gilligan from Limerick who had travelled up to Dublin for the concert with her friends Saoirse Cooney (15) and Zoe Kiely (15).
Friends Alex Murray Moran (15), Ciara Sweeney (14), Caragh O'Donoghue (14), Katie Donnelly (15), Orlagh Banahan (15) and Leah Brennan (15), all from Dublin, were united in their devotion to Simpson. "He's so good-looking. He has everything about him," said Alex. "It's his accent," added Orlagh.
Simpson has often been compared to Bieber. And while the Canadian's fans are dubbed 'Beliebers', the Aussie has his 'Angels'. He was due to perform at Vicar Street last November but postponed until this month after he was asked to open for Bieber on his European tour.
