According to the Mallin Head Coastguard, the search for the missing woman is now focus around Lough Ree, the second of the three major lakes on the River Shannon.

Ms Reilly left her home at Coosan Point Road on Thursday around 11am to go for a walk with her dog on land at the back of her home.

This was part of her daily routine, according to Gardaí.

Her brother however raised the alarm when her dog returned later in the day alone.

At the time of her disappearance, the 74-year-old was last seen wearing a long black coat and black knee length boots.

Described as being 5 foot tall, of small build and with grey hair, Ms Reilly often wears red/brown framed glasses.

Anyone who has seen Kathleen or who can assist in locating her is asked to contact Athlone Garda Station on 090-6498550 or any Garda Station.
