Coast guard searching river for man seen falling in by passerby

A spokesperson for the Irish Coastguard confirmed that they had deployed their helicopter to assist in the garda co-ordinated search in Kilkenny city.

A SEARCH is underway on the River Nore for a man who is reported to have fallen in tonight.

A spokesperson for the Irish Coastguard confirmed that at 10.25pm they deployed their helicopter to assist in the garda co-ordinated search in Kilkenny city.

It is reported that the man fell in to the river at Green’s Bridge in the city at 7.30pm.

A 15-year-old passerby heard his cries for help and attempted to rescue him by throwing in the lifebuoy, but unfortunately lost sight of him shortly afterwards.

“The civil defence people are here. We don’t know who it was,” a local said just moments ago.
