The chopper will deliver the passengers, together with post and vital supplies, from Donegal Airport in Carrickfinn to the island which lies off the north west coast of Donegal.

Recent unsettled weather coupled with Storm Eva's arrival has impacted on the ferry service between the mainland and Tory Island, causing severe disruption to timetables.

The delivery of fresh produce to the island's retailers and the distribution of the all-important sacks of Christmas post has also been impacted by the adverse weather.

Luckily the Coast Guard was on hand to step into the breach.

The Coast Guard have had a busy 2015, carrying out almost 1,000 missions to date.

They wish to remind the public not to walk in exposed areas during winter weather unless they have first checked that it is safe to do so.
