Clowning around for summer pay

WITH summer jobs scarce, one enterprising family has decided to clown around instead.
Aaron Elbel (18), from Killarney, Co Kerry, his sister Lauren (14), and their young brother Darragh (11) have been putting their talents as circus performers to use by busking in their hometown throughout the summer.
The trio have absolutely no "circus blood", they claim, but have been learning how to walk on stilts, unicycle, and even handle fire in a locally run circus school .
"I joined the circus school club in Kerry Diocesan Youth Service (KDYS) about five years ago and my sister started after me," Aaron said.
"We thought Darragh was too young but he wanted to do it too and he's better than any of us at some things."
Although the siblings did have some training at the KDYS club, they're largely self-taught.
However, Aaron says they have no intention of going into the circus full-time.
"It's our hobby but it's also really good for you," he explains. "It keeps you fit both physically and mentally... and we're also making some money."
