Climber killed in mountain plunge

Gardai have confirmed that a climber has plunged to his death in Co Kerry

A mountain climber has died after a fall in Co Kerry, gardai said.

The 26-year-old man fell in the MacGillycuddy Reeks range at about 1.30pm on Saturday.

The Coastguard and Kerry Mountain Rescue were involved in the operation to reach the man at the Cumeen na Peasta ridge.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at around 4pm.

His body has been taken to Tralee hospital, where a post-mortem examination will take place.
