CLAUDINE Keane has paid tribute to her late grandmother, who she described as the "kindest, most selfless person" she ever met.
Margaret 'Lil' Conway (88) died following a brief illness on Tuesday, two days after Claudine flew home from Los Angeles to spend Christmas with her family.
The 27-year-old was joined yesterday by her footballer husband Robbie (32) at the funeral in the Church of the Sacred Heart in Stradbally, Co Laois.
In her homily, Claudine said: "She was a fantastic mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.
"She was surrounded by children everywhere she went.
"Most of our fondest memories as kids were travelling to bingo on Friday night with Nanny.
"If she won, the money would always be spent by the end of the night in Ramsbottoms, Keoghs or Dunnes.
"She would put food on the table in front of someone else and leave herself without. Last week she was organising presents for all of her great grandchildren.
"We will all have an emptiness in our hearts without Nanny. Thank you for looking after us."
