Clarkes trying to put lives back together

CELEBRITY chef Derry Clarke brought his Michelin-star culinary skills to Co Kerry as part of a Valentine's weekend gourmet special at the luxurious Muckross Park Hotel in Killarney.

The well-known owner of the Michelin-starred L'Ecrivain restaurant in Dublin, Mr Clarke and his wife Sallyanne, who runs front-of-house at the Baggot Street bistro, have been trying to put their lives back together since the devastating loss of their 16-year-old son Andrew, who took his own life just days after Christmas.

Mrs Clarke said her family will never get over the tragedy "but we have no choice but to get on with it".

She added that maintaining their routines for the sake of their 30 staff had helped them to cope with their grief.

She also said some regulars had been staying away out of respect, but they needed customers in order to pay the bills.
