Church seeks volunteer Catechists

Nine people in the Diocese of Elphin have come forward so far expressing an interest in becoming a volunteer Catechist.
Dr Doran says the role will not replace priests, but will help fill a gap in the Church’s teaching.
“The idea of a catechism is providing information to deepen your faith. Religious education takes place in the schools but what we haven’t got is anything that happens after school, so that the peculiar thing is when people are 17 or 18, they may cut loose a wee bit. They are also at the stage where they are beginning to actually ask questions about the meaning of their existence.
“The schools will tell you that if nothing is happening at home, what they do is diminished.
“We are looking for people who have an energy around faith and are anxious to do something to support their own parish.”
