CHINESE technology companies are sending unsolicited emails to Irish firms seeking to sell mobile phone blockers which are being used to bypass alarm systems in businesses and homes around the country .

Most alarm systems, which use the same GSM or mobile phone signals to send alerts to security firms, can be bypassed by the jammers.

Gardai intercepted two Dublin men returning from a trip to China last November with mobile phone jamming equipment.

The seizures of the equipment came as gardai were investigating a nationwide wave of robberies of shops and warehouses where hundreds of mobile phones were taken by thieves. In several cases the robbers used electronic jammers to neutralise the alarm systems.
