MOTHER-of-three Annemarie McNally said the cuts to child benefit had come as a "shock".

Annemarie, from Shannon Banks, Co Limerick, who has three children, Gavin (19), Ciara (7) and Shane (3), warned further cutbacks to child benefit would cause many working mothers to consider giving up their jobs due to the high childcare costs.

"It is still a shock at €10 a child. I'll be down €20 a month. I will feel it, and they will feel it," the mother – who works part-time as a medical secretary and is married to Stuart – said.

"If there is another reduction next year it will be a disaster for working mothers."
