Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini are buddies again. They were both on hand to launch the 11th series of juggernaut talent show The X Factor which kicks off this weekend.

Cheryl was famously fired by Cowell from The X Factor USA in 2011, but the pair have patched things up and Cowell says it feels "good to be reunited".

"It's like the last few years have disappeared. She's in good form."

This year, Cowell is parting from tradition and asking applicants to veer away from sob stories.

"I'm not interested in a sob story, I mean seriously, I'm just so over them," he said. Cowell also stated he was no longer interested in manufactured boy bands or novelty acts.

Mel B and Louis Walsh complete the judging panel with Dermot O'Leary returning as loveable host.

Irish teen Chris Leonard, from Co Meath, is rumoured to have made it through to the live shows.
