This 10 month old female lurcher called Cherry was taken in by the DSPCA just before Christmas, after a passer-by discovered her in a very neglected state.

The dog was suffering from a severe infection and her face was badly swollen with puss.

However, just weeks later she is recovering well and is unrecognisable from the malnourished creature she was.

The DSPCA do not believe that the handsome dog was wandering the streets for a long period of time as she would have been handed into them for treatment.

They fear that Cherry was dumped because she was so malnourished and unwell, but advise that a vet could easily have rectified this and it wouldn't have cost her owner too much.

Cherry will soon be looking for her forever home.
