A former employee of a company operating a restaurant for chef Conrad Gallagher has come forward to claim he is owed back wages.

Pastry chef Julien Veal worked for three months at Conrad's Kitchen in Sligo. The 29-year-old French man said he is owed over €3,000.

Mr Veal worked in the restaurant between March and May of this year but eventually walked out over the arrears.

He claims he was hired to work at the restaurant for €1,963.07 per month and he was paid in March. However, he said Mr Gallagher failed to pay him in April and then only paid him €400 from the till during May.

"I asked Conrad Gallagher on the phone so many times to pay me but he always found some excuse. He said 'Yes I will pay you, don't worry, be patient', or 'I will pay you in two days, or next week' but it never happened," Mr Veal told the Irish Independent.

He said Gallagher did promise to transfer €500 to his account, but he received only one transfer of €150.

Last week, the company which ran Conrad's Kitchen in Sligo, Super Potato Ltd, and a second company, Boutique Restaurants Concepts Ltd, which operated Salon des Saveurs in Dublin, were wound up over a €166,000 tax bill.

A spokesman for Gallagher disputed the amount of money owed to Mr Veal but said he would be paid any outstanding wages if he called to the former premises in Sligo today.
