CELEBRITY chef Derry Clarke will be missing from his well-known kitchen as he recovers from serious heart surgery.
The Dublin restaurant owner made the decision to undergo a double bypass after the death of a doctor friend, aged just 43.
Mr Clarke (56) had been warned he was in danger of suffering a heart attack and was advised to undergo the operation due to a family history of cardiac problems.
The chef, who runs Michelin star restaurant L'Ecrivain on Lower Baggot Street in Dublin with his wife Sallyanne, was due to be released from hospital yesterday and will spend the next few weeks recovering.
Sallyanne explained that her husband was "up and about", but that it would take up to six weeks before he was allowed back at work.
"It was actually a much bigger job than I thought," she said. "It took a few days before he began to look like Derry again."
