THE British Heart Foundation has paid tribute to the runner who was raising funds on its behalf before he went into cardiac arrest at the finishing line of the Dublin City Marathon.
A spokesman for the London-based heart charity said it was saddened to learn that 27-year-old Ricki Savage, pictured, from Ramsgate, Kent, England, collapsed at Merrion Square while taking part in the run "to raise funds on our behalf".
It is understood that Mr Savage, who is single, suffered a heart attack after completing the 26.2-mile run in three hours and 10 minutes.
He was taken by St John's Ambulance to the nearby St Vincent's Hospital, where he remains in serious condition. It is understood that Mr Savage's parents are maintaining a vigil at his hospital bedside.
